When you or a family member are injured in a car crash, highway design, road design defects are often at fault. The Highway Department has to build and maintain safe highways with clear signs that show a driver where the safe route is. Sometimes the Highway Department constructs the highway with its own employees and equipment, and sometimes they contract that to highway contractors who are then responsible to protect the public. If people are hurt because the highway designers, builders and maintenance crews were careless or negligent and failed to do their job, then the highway department is liable to people that are injured because of those defects. The injured person, and sometimes his or her family has the right to sue the highway department and their contractors, and get compensation for the injuries.
